Vani MCP server
Use Vani from the assistants you already work in.
Add one URL to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI and they can create images and videos and run web research with your Vani account. You sign in once and choose what each app may do.

Overview
The Vani MCP server speaks the Model Context Protocol over Streamable HTTP (revision 2026-07-28, and 2025-11-25 and 2025-06-18 for older clients). Sign-in uses OAuth: your app opens a Vani page where you approve it. Apps never see your password or an API key.
| Tool | Permission | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| list_models | See available models | Image and video models, sizes, durations, and how many generations remain (or API prices on the API Platform). |
| generate_image | Create images and videos | Text to image. Returns an expiring download link and a small preview. |
| edit_image | Create images and videos | Edit an image from a public link, an inline upload, or an earlier Vani result. |
| generate_video | Create images and videos | Text or image to video. Runs in the background; check it with get_generation. |
| get_generation | Create images and videos | Status of a generation and a fresh download link. |
| web_research | Run web research | Searches the web and reads the top pages; returns cited sources. |
| get_research | Run web research | Results of a research job. |
Accounts and billing
When an app connects, you approve it with one of your two Vani accounts. They are separate accounts and are never linked:
- Vani Chat (https://c.vani.ai): the app uses your plan's allowance, exactly like generating in chat. Your plan decides which models and how many generations you have;
list_modelsshows what remains. - Vani API Platform (https://platform.vani.ai): the app is paid from your prepaid API balance at the published API prices.
The consent page lets you switch between the two before you approve. Failed generations are refunded. Each connected app also has a daily limit, and your plan sets how many apps you can connect.
Claude (web, desktop and mobile)
- Go to Customize → Connectors and click Add custom connector.
- Enter the server URL. For authentication choose Sign in now and keep Use Claude's published identity; no client ID is needed. Click Add.
- Click Connect, sign in to Vani, choose the permissions and Allow.
- In a chat, turn Vani on from the connectors menu and ask for an image, a video or research.
Plans
ChatGPT
- On chatgpt.com open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
- Create a plugin at chatgpt.com/plugins with the server URL and OAuth authentication.
- Connect, sign in to Vani and Allow. ChatGPT asks you to confirm tools that create or spend, and runs read-only tools such as list_models without asking.
Availability
Cursor
Add Vani to Cursor opens Cursor with the server filled in, or add it to .cursor/mcp.json (project) or ~/.cursor/mcp.json (everywhere):
mcp.json
{
"mcpServers": {
"vani": {
"url": "https://mcp.vani.ai/mcp"
}
}
}Cursor shows a sign-in button next to the server; approve it in the browser.
Claude Code
Add the server
claude mcp add --transport http vani https://mcp.vani.ai/mcpThen run /mcp in Claude Code and choose Authenticate. A Vani plugin that bundles this server with a usage skill is being prepared and will be listed here when it is published.
Codex
Add and sign in
codex mcp add vani --url https://mcp.vani.ai/mcp
codex mcp login vaniOr add it to ~/.codex/config.toml:
config.toml
[mcp_servers.vani]
url = "https://mcp.vani.ai/mcp"A Vani skill for Codex that declares this server as a dependency will be listed here when it is published.
Gemini CLI
Add the server
gemini mcp add --transport http vani https://mcp.vani.ai/mcpThen run /mcp auth vani to sign in.
Other clients
Any MCP client with Streamable HTTP and OAuth support works with the URL above, for example VS Code:
.vscode/mcp.json
{
"servers": {
"vani": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://mcp.vani.ai/mcp"
}
}
}Security and privacy
- You choose each app's permissions, and can disconnect it at any time in Settings → Connected apps. Disconnecting signs the app out immediately.
- Apps get short-lived access (about an hour) that renews in the background; a stolen renewal token stops working the moment it is used twice.
- Download links expire within an hour; ask for a fresh one with
get_generation. - Web research returns untrusted web pages. Vani marks them as such, and assistants should never follow instructions found in them.
- Vani records which app used which tool and when, never your prompts.
Troubleshooting
- The app keeps asking you to sign in: disconnect it in Settings → Connected apps, then connect again.
- “Limit of connected apps”: disconnect an app you no longer use, or upgrade your plan.
- “Today's generation limit”: each app has a daily limit that resets at midnight UTC.
- A model is not available: ask the app to call
list_models; it lists what your account can use.
